End of the Semester

Since my last post (almost a month ago) I've probably logged in another 120+ hours of work.  I'm about a week behind my original schedule (11 shots).  Right now I have some 40+ shots, many of which are the most difficult shots to animate.

Overall it's been a challenging semester.  I've definitely gotten a lot more comfortable with long hand drawn scenes.

I'll be recording the dialogue for Aries this weekend with Stephanie.  Over the break I'm going to be making as many backgrounds as possible.  Crowd spots would be very helpful.  Some rough lip syncing animation would also be useful so I could really make the acting good next semester.  I'd also like to do a little bit of theme music work (I've got a keyboard and garage band.)

I've made cover letters for Duck Studios who have a 2D animators wanted page on their website and Titmouse Inc. who have an open submission link.

11-14

After about 12 hours of work today I got back on track completing (until critique) the moped landing scene, the riding scene, the glimps of the airplane, and the airplane shots.  I still need to add a cutaway of Aries looking to the side, then glimpsing the plane.  Overall I'll probably have to add several of these snippits to smooth the editing and give Aries more personality.

Work update

With my internship done I can focus all my time on Aries.  I'll be really buckling down till.... Spring.
Nov 12th spent the night working on tweaking a lot of my unfinished or critiqued shots.  About 7 hours or so.

Nov 13th spent the night working on shot 9 (landing on the moped).  9 hours.  Didn't get as much work done as I scheduled.  I'll have to work hard to catch up.

Researching jobs - California

Biggin's be:  Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, WB, CN, Nick, Sony

But what else...
Duck Studios seems legit and wants 2D animators.  I'll need to email them to see if they're still into it.  If so, it'd be a great foot in the door.

Hyperion Pictures- don't know if they're hiring.

Researching jobs- New York

Titmouse is a really good studio in New York, they have a drop box and encourage applications.
Curious Pictures is reputable though their site doesn't have any career info.  Buzzco is an ad group that looks like it'd be on the lower mid.

Not as much as I figured.

Researching jobs- Vancouver

Looking at Vancouver studios.  Nerd Corps looks good, kinda high on the medium level.  There are several Flash based studios that seem low key like Atomic Cartoons, Pork and Beans, Ooga booga.  All of whom have positions for animators open (though experiences is nessessary and/or preferred.)
Mercury Filmworks looks official and they have open submissions to work for them but no specific openings aside from a graphic designer.  DHX is also in Vancouver, though this one is pretty high up there and looks like experience is key.

More worktime

Keeping track of work time is pretty tough, particularly when I'm jumping around on scenes/projects.

Thursday  the 4th I spent around 3 hours making the background for shot 3 and compositing it together.

Friday the 5th I spent 6 hours working on shot 30.

Sunday the 14th I spent about 2 more hours tweeking shot 30.

Monday the 15th I worked around 10 hours working on several different shots.

Est shot of night club

Put in around 8 hours making this background.  Still needs some critiquing and people to fill it.  I'll need to figure out a quicker way to make my backgrounds while keeping in the same style (granted this should be the most demanding background.)

Jobs Research New Frontier

Krickett and I have been planning our exit strategies and have recently decided to open up our options on where we'd like to move to.  Atlanta is still an option but we are looking at Canada, New York, and the East Coast as well.  A bit of a setback on progress though a step forward as well.
Work Log Update

Shot 3 (the hammer shot) has been taking longer than I expected, though I'm setting this weeks shot quota as some easier shots while making up what I've fallen behind on.

Thursday (20th) - I did probably about another 8 hours or so.
